Did you know that sitting for a longer period of time can have a detrimental effect on your liver?
It’s a widely known fact that sitting down for too long has been linked to diabetes, anxiety and obesity.
In fact, according to a new study and research in South Korea, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can be acquired through sitting down and remaining stationary for a prolonged period of time.
According to a research by the Journal of Hepatology, people who sit down for ten or more hours daily run the risk of increasing the non-fatty liver disease by 9 percent.
Physical activity and being physically active is basically an important aspect of life to keep a person healthy as previous studies have shown.
Walking is actually a healthy form of exercise that can keep you physically active and healthy. By walking at least 10,000 steps a day, you’ll be well ahead of those people who seldom exercise – around 20 percent of these people are less likely to develop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Michael Trenell, a professor of metabolism and lifestyle medicine at Newcastle University in England said: “Our body is designed to move, and it is not surprising that sedentary behavior, characterized by low muscle activity, has a direct impact on physiology.”
In his statement, Trenell said that a lifestyle change may be the best script, considering that there aren’t sufficient drugs approved for treating the disease.
Trenell also suggested that walking at least 10,000 steps daily or equivalent to more or less 150 minutes of moderate exercise weekly is good to keep yourself physically active, which is also recommended by the general surgeons.
