The “Pambansang Kamao” is leading the celebrities although not yet officially proclaimed as one of the winners in the senatorial race, is already assured of a seat in the Senate being in the number seven slot of the required twelve senators in the upper house, considering that only more or less five percent of the votes remain to be counted.
Actress, politician dubbed as “Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos-Recto, commonly known as Ate Vi was proclaimed as Representative of the Sixth District of Batangas covering Lipa City. The husband of former Batangas governor, Senator Ralph Recto is also in the winning race occupying the number eleven slot of the so called “Magic Twelve” in the senatorial slate.
After the neck a neck tussle in the mayoral race against his rival former mayor and senator, Alfredo Lim, actor and incumbent Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada was officially proclaimed as Mayor of Manila for the second term.
It’s reputedly a fourth time lucky for talented sportsman-actor Richard Gomez, who after a series of attempt to run in a government position, finally made it in the winning circle. Richard was officially announced winner by the Board of Canvassers approximately 4 a.m. on Tuesday after garnering 53,234 votes versus reigning Mayor Edward Codilla, who obtained 44,453 votes.
Gomez wife, former model Lucy Torres-Gomez secured a new approval from her constituents when she won as Representative of the 4th District of Leyte.
The multi-awarded actor, model and athlete, Richard Gomez eventually made it to the electoral race after four attempts. His initial try in politics was his nomination in the party-list Mamayan Ayaw Sa Droga (MAD) in 2001. Unfortunately, his party-list was disqualified by the Supreme Court. Subsequently, Gomez did not give up and ran as senator in 2007, unluckily he lost.
He tried again in 2010 and ran as Congressman in the 4th District of Leyte but due to lack of residency he was disqualified anew for the second time. However, his wife, Lucy Torres-Gomez replaced Richard who apparently won the congressional seat.
Gomez ran for Mayor of Ormoc in 2013 but lost again to rival candidate Codilla by 3,000 votes.
Richard not losing his gutsy determination ran again for the second time as Mayor of Ormoc under the National People’s Coalition (NPC) and was endorsed by presidential frontrunner Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Luck definitely smiled at him this time as he won the mayoralty post.
Councilors of Makati – The talented actor-dancer, host of popular noontime musical variety show “It’s Showtime” and dubbed as “Sample King,” Jhong Hilario together with actor-singer Rico J. Puno won and elected as councilors of the first district of Makati.
Hilario amassed 80,135 votes copping the top of the council race, while Rico Puno landed on third spot with 65,255 votes.
The two celebrities ran under the banner of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), of the presidential aspirant Jojo Binay.
Jhong Hilario said: “Kailangan nating magtrabaho, ipakita sa tao, kung binoto ka ng tao kailangan ipakita mo na karapat-dapat ka kasi kung hindi, malamang hindi ka na manalo sa susunod.”
