Box Office Director Wenn Deramas Is Dead At 49

The undisputed box-office director Wenn Deramas succumbed to death on Monday morning when he was not able to survive a sudden cardiac arrest in the hospital.

Deramas was 49 years old at the time of his death.

June Rufino, a friend of Wenn Deramas disclosed that the director went to the hospital to visit his sister who ironically also suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

Jun Rufino also said that there were innumerable efforts to resuscitate Director Wenn, unfortunately his heart was unable to respond and eventually Deramas died at approximately 2.00 AM at the Capitol Medical Centre emergency room.

Rufino said: “When he arrived there, biglang tumirik din ang mata niya. Sixty-six seconds lang ang reviving period, wala talaga.”

Director Wenn already undertook an angioplasty procedure last year when he almost suffered a heart attack two years ago which fortunately he was able to survive and fully recovered after undergoing an angioplasty. However, his friends and supporters can’t believe on his sudden death due to a massive cardiac arrest.

Jun remarked: “He had an angioplasty last year but he became very healthy. He lost weight, maganda. Kaya biglaan in a way kasi na-clear din naman siya sa angioplasty.”

Deramas’ body will be brought to Arlington Memorial Chapels in Araneta Avenue anytime today.

Meanwhile, Wenn Deramas graduated from the University of Santo Tomas and commenced his career as a production assistant.

Eventually, he worked as a writer and executive producer but was recognized more as a TV and film director wherein most of the movies he directed became box office hits.

Some of his hit movies include ‘Moron 5 and the Crying Lady,’ ‘Ang Tanging Ina” series, ‘Petrang Kabayo,’ ‘Sisterakas,’ ‘The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin,’ ‘The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin,’ ‘Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy’ and the top-grossing Filipino film of all time, “Beauty and the Bestie,” which has already hit the half million marked, earning P526 million in the box office as of January 26, 2016.
Some popular celebrities have enunciated their deep sorrow over the untimely demised of Director Wenn Deramas who’s considered as one of the movie industry icon.

In the meantime, “It’s Showtime” family offered a brief moment of silence in honour of Director Deramas led by comedian Vice Ganda.

Wenn Deramas directed the blockbuster movies of Vice Ganda, including “Praybeyt Benjamin” series and the latest movie entry in the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival “Beauty and the Bestie” which is the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.

Vice Ganda said: “Sa ngalan po ni Direk Wenn, gusto kong magpasalamat sa inyong lahat sa lahat ng tumangkilik ng pelikula niya. Sa lahat ng mga tumawa, sa mga mga pelikulang ginawa namin, maraming-maraming salamat po. Nagpapasalamat din ako kay Direk Wenn dahil binigyan niya ako ng isang puwang dito sa showbiz. Sa mga hindi nakakaalam si Direk Wenn ang direktor ng lahat ng pelikula ko. Lahat ng pelikulang tinawanan niyo, lahat ng pelikulang pinalakpakan niyo sa (Manila Film Festival) lahat ng pelikula ko, si Direk Wenn po ang direktor noon.”

“Siya po ang direktor ng kauna-unahang pelikula ko na ‘Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat.’ ‘Yung pelikula ko na pagkaabot sa akin ng script ay walang laman, walang laman ang script dahil doon pa lang ipinaramdam niya na sa akin ang tiwala niya. Bahala ka kung ano ang gusto mong sabihin. Maraming-maraming salamat Direk Wenn, maraming-maraming salamat sa inyo. Ang hinihiling ko lang nawa ay ipagpatuloy niyo ang pagdarasal sa kanya at sa mga naulila niya. Humihingi din ako ng paumanhin sa lahat sa inyo dahil hindi ko kakayaning magpatawa, pasensiya na po kayo,” Vice continued.

Eventually, Vice Ganda requested everyone in the show to give Director Wenn Deramas a big round of applause to the warm response of the audience and “It’s Showtime” family.
