People nowadays are so engrossed with catching up with the modern technology and the hustle and bustle of the daily grind that they often forget what’s really important in life.
Survival of the fittest I should say is the idea of living on our day to day existence trying to do our best to achieve our goal for the day. We are so focused with working real hard to get rich and control people around us, exercising our power and influence to be able to get what we want. The irony of it all is that, our physical needs to love and be loved and emotional feelings such as longing for affection are most of the time taken for granted if not totally ignored.
But what message am I really trying to convey?
Let me quote one of the most popular verses in the Bible. According to 1 Corinthian 13: 4-7 “Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous, conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil; but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope and patience never fail.”
Let me break down the points mentioned from the above verse from the Bible one by one and elaborate on them further.
“Love is patient” – you need to be slow to anger and you also need to control your temper.
“Love is kind” – you need to encourage people with your good words and do not criticize them for who they are.
“Love is not jealous” – you do not covet what others have.
“Love is not conceited or proud” – you’re not rude or proud and you have dignity and you show respect to others.
“Love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable” – you are not self-centered and you do not focus on exercising your rights, instead, you are more inclined to serve others.
“Love does not keep a record of wrongs” – you desire more for the good of others and forgive their wrong doings to you.
“Love is not happy with evil but happy with the truth” – you are sincere, honest and truthful to your words and actions.
“Love never gives up” – you can bear disappointment, insult and injury without retaliating and you’re determined to pursue what is good for others and to oneself.
“Love’s faith, hope and patience never fail” – you believe in the power of God to guide you and you have that positive attitude to face the reality of life whether it’s good or bad. You also patiently bear things with triumphant fortitude and you remain peaceful and joyful with yourself whatever it takes.
If you are looking for the real challenge to change your character and outlook in life for the better and experience what true Christian love is, well, this is actually what you need to do.
You do not necessarily have to be religious to try it; essentially, you really need the power of God to help and guide you to be able to do this. Once you have that strong desire and determination to give and share true Christian love to others, only then can you truly experience the real meaning of self- sacrificial and unconditional love and the real joy and meaning of what true Christian love really is.
As the Bible says “we can do all things through Christ which strengthens us. If God is for us nobody can go against us. He is our helper and we have nothing to be afraid of.”
So are you ready to give true Christian love??
